So how do you get going ?
1. Create your own personal page – when you register, you
will fill out the general questionnaire that will create your
profile. Once you have completed that, you can update your own page
in the following ways :
a. Upload a picture of yourself .( We would like to see you
b. You can re-arrange the order in which the “activity
blocks” are positioned – e.g. you can have “my photos” at the top,
followed by “my profile”, and “latest activity” or you could change
those around. Just drag and drop.
c. Write your own blog posts, this can be anything you like
that is related to the outdoors. We are placing no restrictions on
you other than not being rude, and generally using your own common
sense as to what kind of content and behaviour is acceptable. In
particular, we would like to see the following types of
i. Humour – laugh out load stories
ii. Epic – true epics from which we can all learn
iii. Route descriptions & travel guides – if you’ve had
a good experience, other people will want to follow you – help them
with the where, what, how, when & who to contact
iv. Lists – best of ...... collections (e.g. best 10 trad.
routes in the Peninsula under grade 18); recommended gear for this
or that trip (e.g. kit list for ice climbing on the ‘Berg); must
see items (e.g. what must you do when you visit Kruger Park ?)
d. Upload your own image galleries. Top images will
regularly be featured on our home page, this is your chance to be
e. Upload your own videos, once again we want to see some
action, so for all those budding adventure camera people, go get
f. Start your own discussions in the forum. Do you have a
queston, do you have some valuable information you want to share,
do you want to get input on anything, this is that space.
g. Apps - stands for applications. Click on this link and
you will see that there are a bunch of great applications (253 to
be exact) you can add to make your personal page more exciting. Get
news feeds, add music, link to your twitter account, add a YouTube
widget and much more)
h. Start a group. You belong to a club or running group that
you want to have on The Edge start a group and use it to
communicate with the other members.
i. Start and Event. Are you an event organiser? Do you want
to raise awareness of an event you are participating in? This is
your space to get an event going on the network. The event can even
be a virtual one, start your own earth hour!
2. IMPORTANT – the next thing is where you will create a
buzz – Create a group and invite all your mates to create their own
profile & join the group – this way you can organise your trail
running group, your hiking club – or just your regular climbing
mates. No fuss & free.
